Marshall Land, a road driver at our Little Rock, Arkansas, service center, has been living his dream of driving trucks since 1965. 

“As a young boy, I had a few dreams — I wanted to be an airplane pilot, I wanted to drive a Greyhound bus, and I wanted to be a truck driver,” Land said. “I ended up pursuing my No. 1 dream, which was driving trucks. I stayed with it, put a lot into it and have gotten a lot out of it.” 

Land began his driving career one year after the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.  

Cargo theft in North America

Cargo theft isn’t just a big issue for shippers and carriers. It also has a significant impact on the economy. When freight is stolen, supply chains are disrupted, freight isn’t delivered as planned, customer satisfaction is impacted, and downstream costs are incurred (including higher insurance rates). The costs for all of this ultimately gets passed on to the consumer.

ArcBest has received many questions from customers about the notification issued by UPS Freight on November 1 regarding its less-than-truckload operations. In a transportation marketplace already constrained by available capacity, know that we’re actively monitoring the situation and possible service disruption at UPS Freight.

Based on past experiences with other companies, a customer was doubtful that a driver for ArcBest^® less-than-truckload carrier ABF Freight^® would be willing to deliver a shipment up his 1,000-foot driveway.

But that’s exactly what ABF Freight driver Tim Clark did.

Truck driver appreciation week

According to the American Trucking Associations (ATA), semi-truck drivers transport nearly 70 percent of all freight distributed in the United States — making the trucking industry an integral piece in our economy. To honor commercial drivers for their hard work and dedication, the ATA hosts National Truck Driver Appreciation Week each year. The 2017 celebration takes place September 10-16.

When a customer was moving across North America, she needed a mover that would get her belongings to her new home safely and on time.

This was a challenging move for the customer. The move was nearly 1,000 miles from Georgia to her new home in Ontario, Canada. She decided to use U-Pack, a service of ArcBest.

In 1970, Open Road magazine featured an article about an ABF Freight^® driver who also was a recording artist.

Joe West, a Little Rock road driver, recorded songs such as “Just Me, This Old Truck and My Lord,” “The Answer to A Truck Driver’s Prayer,” “I Died in Vietnam” and “A Truck Brought It.”

A customer who ordered a boat learned that its delivery would be curbside. The boat company tells its customers to make arrangements for unloading boats when they’re delivered.

ArcBest carrier ABF Freight^® was delivering the boat, scheduled for a Monday. The customer’s husband arranged to take the day off work and to have his son there to help unload it. When the delivery date arrived, the customer called the local ABF Freight service center to confirm the delivery and to get an idea of when it would be delivered.
